I have never understood this completely. Why is the minimum age to rent a vehicle, 25? I could understand not letting a brand new driver rent a vehicle (ie: 16), but why not 18 or 21?
I have actually seen a few places that have different rates depending on age, I think 25 is the suggested age. I know for some people that do spring break in college they have age groups like 18-21, etc.
It is an insurance issue I think. Once you hit 25, your insurance is usually better than when you are 18-21. I think there are a lot of places that rent to 21 and older though.
I think it's a question of the much higher cost of insurance for younger drivers. When you rent a car, you buy insurance. The insurance industry may not want to make insurance available to this high risk group of drivers.
Have you ever watched Judge Judy? Seeing the under 25 age adults there would answer your question. Now I do not want to generalize. I, myself, was a very responsible and mature driver from the moment I got my license, but a lot of friends were not.
Great question! I did not know that the minimum age was 25 to rent a car. It makes sense though about the insurance and rental cars. I never tried to rent a car before I was 25 so I did not know.
