Poll time! So...can you, or can't you? I once gave a speech about how everyone should learn how to, because you'll never know when you'll need to know to drive on in an emergency. I still feel everyone should, for many different reasons.
I can; I didn't have much choice. My parents bought me my first car, a stick, and put me in it and told me to go get the groceries. Quite a learning experience, for sure!
My Dad taught me to drive a stick shift when I was 8-10 years old. We had an old half ton pick up that we used to help get in hay when we were putting it up. Lots of fun and I learned a lot.
Yep. I thought that it was important because you never know if you may be needed to drive one.. say if someone gets hurt and needs to get to the hospital. I think it's fun. A bit tough though.
I don't know how to answer that - I have driven a stick shift on the interstate to help drive on a necessary trip. All I had to do was get it in gear and get on the exit, which didn't require me having to switch gears too much. This was about 15 years ago. I never drove inner-city or in town with it. So, is that a yes or a no?
Technically yes, I understand the concept of driving a stick. have I ever done it no. I am really lazy when it comes to driving and I just want to get into my car, turn it on and throw it in gear without worrying about all the extra steps involved in shifting a manual transmission.
It's so interesting to hear people who find it to be "too much work" to drive a stick! Because I've always known how to drive one, I find myself feeling like I'm not involved enough and getting bored when I drive an automatic!
I learned to drive a stick during my first year of driving. I got irritated with it and said I didn't like it - but when I bought my first car, it was a stick! I miss it sometimes.
