Car Kits

I'm thinking of buying a car kit for my son to learn how to build a dragster or dune buggy from scratch. Anyone have suggestions for a reasonably priced and quality kit I can buy located in the U.S.? Another option would be to build using parts from pick-aparts or junkyards. What's your experience? What would be the best and most affordable way to go?

When I was younger my uncle, brother, and I used to build beefy off road ride. We would get most of our parts from a pull-a-part yard near where we lived. It's much more fun in my opinion to build something out of junk. Especially if you're going to be rough with it.
