Cars That Are Too Loud

I live in the country on a dead end road. We have a neighbor who has made his car exhaust system so loud that it almost shakes the house. I have to admit, kids do this but this guy is in his 30's and runs up and down the road all night. I'm just about at the end of my rope. Should I confront him about it or just buy better earplugs?

I'm guessing you don't have noise ordinances in the area? If you did, you could ask him politely to keep it down after a certain hour (perhaps the hour the law states, if it does), and if he doesn't respect your request, you could call the police and complain.

Thanks turner, unfortunately we don't have any noise ordinances or I would have already have called the cops. He is part of the problem but not all. We also have a neighbor who drives his riding lawn mower down the street past my house to a drinking buddy's house. Wonderful neighbors-not!

Well, you could talk to him but technically if his car isn't too loud according to the law, there's nothing you can really do. Sounds to me like his car is above that level. So, start there and then report him I guess. That's frustrating though, because I know no one wants to get involved with complaining about someone.

I would not talk to the person directly, because that may just cause problems. I had the same thing happen to me, I talked to them, nothing changed. Then, they knew that it was me that called the cops. It was annoying.

Gee, that's a tough one to do anything about if you don't have noise ordinances where you live. I'd just leave it lay for now. He may blow up his engine if he keeps it up. Well, you can only hope!:heh:
