Check Your Wheels

I was talking to a friend today who said that she noticed one of her tires was losing air regularly. Assuming it had a leak from a hole she couldn't find, she filled it with air and made it to the nearest tire center. She bought a new tire and had it put on, only to have the service guy tell her that nothing was wrong with the old tire. She realized later that it was that the rim of the wheel was rusting and letting air out at the edges of the tire. Wow! Might be something to check if your tires are losing air.

I check my tired every week. I am a little bit obsessed with the pressure in my tires. I have had the same sort of problem as your friend. Anymore I try to park in the garage and rinse my car often.

Yeah, it can do it quite easily like that. I once had a screw that was occasionally causing my tires to leak air. It was odd too. It wouldn't do it regularly but just at times. I finally took it in to see what the deal was and found this machine screw stuck straight in to the tire.

Thanks for the heads-up! It makes sense that the rim can be at fault occasionally. How often is one expected to change the rims on a vehicle? I think I've only ever heard of changing them if the original ones are damaged (like in a wreck or something), but it sounds like it might need to be done more often than that.
