Does anyone live in deer country, or has in the past? I've had a few close calls while riding with other friends, but only once have I seen deer while driving myself, and they were off the road anyway. Anyone got better deer stories?
We were coming around a corner one day when my spouse was driving and I thought it was a dog running from a house toward the road. When it got to the road, I realized it was a deer. It was only about 20 feet in front of us.
Luckily, I've never came that close to one. However, I have been really nervous before because we kept seeing them on the side of the road when on a long trip. Freaked me out!
We lived in the country up north, but there are still deer here, even though it is suburbs. They are not as big as NY deer, about the size of a large dog, but they can still do some damage to a vehicle if you hit one.
I used to live in the country, and I am still not too far from it. I have seen lots of deer, but fortunately have not had any accidents. I just have to remind myself to look for them whenever I drive out to the country.
My best friend and I had just left his house. I was following his car with mine. He gets to a stop light at the corner of a not very busy road. A deer walks out of the woods looking half crazed (a buck in fact). The next thing I know this crazy buck lowers his head and starts running at my friends car. Then the crazy deer just keeps ramming in to the car and using his antlers to bang the car. I was just sitting in shock as I watched this. My friend was not hurt but they did end up having to shoot the deer.
That's not good coup. Either it was in rut or was rabid. I'm glad they put it down. We heard a deer vs. car incident on the police scanner last night. Totally destroyed the car and the deer but the people weren't hurt.
Geez, I did not even know deer could go rabid. I can see how a rabid buck could cause some major problems. I think a deer that attacks cars and people is probably a danger and does need to be put down.
