Does Driving Stick Save Gas?

I've been driving an automatic for a couple of months now, and I just feel like the tank empties so much faster than my last two cars, which were both stick shifts. I know that you can drive more conservatively with a stick shift and save gas, but I definitely wasn't exactly going easy on those cars...could just using a stick be more fuel efficient, with the increased amount of time you spend in neutral, perhaps?

I think anything automatic is by default going to use more fuel (of whatever sort) than anything manual, generally speaking. While you'd think that an automatic would be better, since it's computer controlled - it's also true that cars *can* be made to get 100+mpg but they aren't because of where the money is. In my opinion, automatics are programmed to use more.
