Driving while sleepy

Do you ever drive while you are tired? I think that sometimes that can be just as dangerous as being under the influence of drugs or alcohol. What do you think?

I have a sister who has a long commute home at night sometimes after classes at school - she has admitted to nearly falling asleep behind the wheel and having to pull over to rest, which isn't always the safest thing to do, either, in my opinion. It's a very scary situation.

I think driving tired is a very dangerous situation. It is better to pull off the side of the road and take a nap than it is to continue driving when you know your reactions are impaired by tiredness.

Yes, which is not a good idea for me, because when I'm tired, I need to sleep right away. I'm so lucky I've never crashed.

There are devices that you can get to place over your ear that will alarm when your head nods. It is so loud that it will wake you up. It is a handy thing to have in the car. I used to have an 80 mile commute to work midnight shift and coming home in the mornings it's saved my bacon quite a few times.

I've driven tired before. Not recommended. It can be very dangerous. I would turn up the music, and lower the windows when cold out. I would try and change the temperature and my comfort level every 20 minutes or so.

My brother had a very scary experience. He was driving home from university one year, it was a 7 hour drive. He just caught the car before it went into a large ditch on the side of the highway. His car was on the grass verge. One more minute and he would have had a serious accident. Since then he finds if he plays audio books, and chews on candies while he is driving, he doesn't get that sleepy feeling.
