Fleas and cars

My friend borrowed my car for a couple days. He took a camping trip with his dog, big old mutt, and brought the car back. As soon as I got in a flea jumped on me. If I just lock the car up with the temperature change be enough to kill the fleas?

It might be but I'm not sure. You're probably going to have to spray your car or something to make sure they're all dead. I'm so sorry! That's really rude of them

Yeah that was rather rude. I mean they borrowed your car! I would nicely ask them to pay for the flea removal if it is needed. I do not think it would be unfair for you to ask that. If he won't do it then maybe you might want to think twice next time he wants to borrow your car.

I've heard that regular table salt will kill them. You might get a couple pounds (it's pretty inexpensive) and try covering your carpet and upholstery overnight, then vacuum it out in the morning.

I might try that. I have a lot of extra table salt around. As for my friend he did tell me he will help me with any flea removal that I need, so that is good news.

You will have to spray the car. Flees do not go away without a great big fight. Even if you kill the adults, the eggs will stay alive even in great heat. I recommend you go to your local vet, or get your friend to, and get the spray from there. The stuff at the pet shop is just a load of crap. Take it from an old flee hand!

There is a shake on carpet powder that will kill fleas and make the car smell better. Use it on seats and all of the carpet to get them covered. Or as Maximum Speed said-use CANNING salt, not table salt on the seats and carpet and it will dehydrate and kill the fleas and the eggs as well. The only caveat is it has to stay in place for about 2 weeks to allow the eggs to develop if they are going to hatch and haven't been killed by the salt. All I got to say is "good luck".
