Gas prices plummetting

Gas prices have gone to almost $4 a gallon to just over $3 a gallon in the last week. They say that gas prices don't go up because of the season, but I think that is crap. The prices went up as soon as summer hit and now that the cold weather is coming prices are going down again.

Well, when they go down, just enjoy it. "They" can say what "they" want, be we all know that they raise the prices in the summer and for holidays.

We have seen a small, but still there, drop this past week. I wonder if its just random depending on where you live? We are coming into the busiest time of the year too remember.

It has gone down quite a bit here, too, for which I am grateful. I hate that it will probably not get back down to a reasonable number (like $1.50 or less!) ever again.

The prices have not gone down a ton yet but they are dropping! I'm just glad! I do agree that they raise the prices in the summer, when more people drive. It's crazy if you ask me!

I think it would be great if we could get back down to around $2 a gallon but I don't know if that will happen. I was excited that I put $20 in and actually got myself up to half a tank of gas. All summer $20 has only been getting me about 1/4 full.

The gas prices here haven't gone down that dramatically, but any decrease is always nice. I thought that this seasonal change was common though. Isn't the price always a little higher in the summer? I guess I just never heard that this was something unusual this year.

Yeah, the prices have not gone down that much in my area. I thought they were going to, but they are stuck at 3.42-3.51 in my area. I do hope they keep going down, but who knows. I would love to see it in the 2 dollar range again. Show me some real savings at the pump!

Right now I am thankful for having a points system with our local food market. For one thing its the closest store we have in our area so being able to get almost anything there is a plus. Then saving on gas helps with the prices (until they get "normal").

Donald, it is a seasonal thing but the gas and oil companies will tell you that it isn't them gouging consumers because they travel more. The fact is the gas we are using today is from oil that could have been bought over a year ago.

I've got the same "points" system with my local grocery store too. So I usually save 10 - 20 cents off each fill-up about 1 time a month. I still wish the prices would drop even more.

Hotrod, I have that too and it is nice, but it would be nice if it was just lower in the first place. I wish the oil companies would quit ripping us off.

I know Fender it is ridiculous the profit margin the oil companies have. There are also a lot of state and federal taxes rolled into what we pay at the pump. Oddly enough most of the big oil companies pay little or no taxes.

What gets me is when the oil/gas company says they have to charge the high prices and then it comes out they have made billions and are in the top of the profit making businesses.

I remember the headlines when the first time gas prices went to 4 dollars a gallon they talked about the oil companies making more profits than in their history. My girlfriend is from Venezuela, a huge oil producer, and she said gas there is so cheap. Everything else is expensive there, but gas is maybe only a few dollars to fill up your car. They actually have a problem with people smuggling gas from that country to Colombia right next to it. I had no idea about this stuff until I met her.

Lamboguy that is interesting. I had no idea about that either. Heck I would be happy if we could get a fill up for $20, let alone a couple dollars.

That is interesting; thanks for sharing that. I just think the whole thing is contrived. I do not buy into the given reasons for the high prices. I also think the government should be more active in protecting consumers.
