Nail in Tire

I got a nail in my tire, and couldn't get to a shop very fast. I was a couple of miles from school when I noticed, and had to take my little one to drop off.

I took it in for repair but was amazed really that it held up. I'm told that if you don't pull the nail out, it plugs the hole-seems that works pretty well!

I managed to run over a bunch of leaves (or so I thought) and then ended up with the same issue as you, which in part is the reason we had to replace tires early. Some idiots on our block pushed all leaves into the road as we get curb side pickups, but he also managed to dig up the ditch and throw everything else into the road too.

Yep that is true! My dad had a nail in his tire for weeks and he could drive around with it fine because it kept the air from coming out. Although I would not recommend driving around with a nail in the tire for as long as he did, lol.

Since it plugs the hole so well, what would be the downside of driving around on it? I suppose if something caught on it and pulled it out, you'd be in trouble, but otherwise, seems pretty safe, generally speaking.

@ DrivesMeCrazy ... the downside could be that you hit a bump in the road and tire just totally pops! LOL. Yea, you can drive around with a nail in your tire for quite some time, I have done it. Although I would still prefer a tire without a nail in it when I am cruising down the freeway.

With the state of the streets in my neighborhood, I have this problem several times a year. I usually find out at the worse possible time. Imagine running late to take the kids to school and finding your tire is flat. Luckily, I live close to a gas station. I slowly drive to the gas station and fill the tire up, and this lets me drive to the school and then the repair shop. This way I don't have to get my hands dirty putting the spare on to just have it changed in less than an hour.

Yeah, the risk is that it will go, or that it will split the tire where the nail has gone in. It's best to get it repaired as soon as possible.
