Picking up the kids

So I pick up the kids at school every day and it is so frustrating. All the cars have to park in a line and you can't pick your kids up until you get to the front of the line. You have to get to the school 30 minutes early just so you don't spend an hour in the parking lot after school lets out. Do you find it frustrating when picking up your kids?

I have decided to avoid this issue when our youngest starts I am going to drive her in the morning and walk to get her in the afternoon. This way I can get there early in the morning to beat the rush and in the afternoon I get a little extra exercise.

Yeah, while it sort of makes sense, as far as the safety of the children is concerned, I think it's overkill. As long as a teacher or guardian can see that the child's parents are there to pick up the child, the kid should be able to go get in the car.

I know our school is about 15 kids to a teacher so that would be interesting to see how it would work. Maybe for smaller schools they could set 1/2 the teacher staff (or teacher helpers) outside with a classroom, so then with two lanes the parents could shuffle through to pick their kids up.

It's not like that here at our school. You can park anywhere in the parking lot and then the kids walk out. This is a high school though. When the kids were younger we actually had to go in the school and sign them out (even when school was letting out). Be thankful you don't have to go into the school.

HotRod, I would hate to have to go into the school since I have 2 other small children with me when we do pick up. I do think it is ridiculous that they don't let the kids walk out to the car though. It took us over 15 minutes to do drop off the other day because he missed the bus in the morning and then my preschooler was almost late to class.

I wonder if the builders never realized how much traffic a school actually gets? Our elementary school has parking for all of the staff and then maybe 15 parking spots tops. That is nothing when the school holds over 700 kids in a tiny school.

That system looks like a frustrating one especially when the case is that there is too much hassle. If you walked to pick them, would you still wait in the line?

We live too far away to walk. It would be ok for me but it is just over a mile one way so the kids would be pooped out by the time we walked that far. He used to go to school 2 blocks away and we walked that as long as weather permitted. It was so much nicer, but the district realigned so he got bumped to a different school.
