Selling a car - how to

I've had my car out front for sale for about 2 weeks now. I've only had 2 people stop. 1 wanted to pay in payments (no thanks) and the other did not offer what I wanted.

How can I get more traffic to the car? I really want to sell it quick!

Where do you have it up for sale right now? I put mine on Craigslist and within 2 hours I had a buyer and at least 8 phone calls about it.

Yeah, Craigslist is the way to go. I have sold a car and a motorcycle using the site and both were sold in only a couple of days.

I would definitely suggest Craigslist. We sell everything on there and it sells quickly too because it gets the attention of people who might not normally drive by your house.

I put it on Craigslist a couple of nights ago and so far have had about 4 calls. No sale yet though! I want it gone before the snow flies. I'm thinking I'll put it in the local paper too!

Anytime I put something up on Craigslist, I get contacted almost immediately. Like everyone I suggest it. You can renew your ad to the top of the page as it drops down the list when newer ads are placed by others. Use every source you can to get your car out there for people to see.

Yes, you definitely need to renew the ad everyday. You can even put it in the section for other areas around you too. Some people will travel a little bit to get a good deal on a car. I wish you luck!

In our area, there is a little paper that comes out weekly that is nothing but classified ads. People look at that more than they do at Craigs List here.

Before you put in on Craigslist, first make sure that's it's in good condition. Depending on what you're asking, you may have to repair certain things that are broke or not working. Second, give it a good wash and clean out the interior. I hate looking at a car for sale, and the seller didn't car enough about selling the car to even vacuum the seats and floor and clean out the trash. Then put it on Craigslist.

I vacuumed it and washed it. It's in great shape and I'm selling it for about $700 less than the fair value on Kelly Blue Book (I just want it gone). How do you renew the ad? I thought it was illegal to do this?

As long as you are not spamming the ad or posting it multiple times a day you should be fine. I think you might get an option to repost the ad. Also, do you have multiple pictures? That helps a sale too.

I was going to take new pictures tomorrow and edit the post. I will now after reading this. I guess some couple stopped today and wanted to buy it for their daughter. They did not come back though. Let's hope they stop tomorrow!

You should definitely do that. If you have several pictures and post a price online you should get more hits. If you post it each day (or even every other day) you should be fine there too.

Well the people never came back so I'm back to posting it again daily. I'm going to add new pictures too. I had a couple on there. I will add a couple more. I just want it gone!

How is the car selling going? I'm curious to hear what happened. At this point you might want to spend a few bucks and have it put in the paper.

Just a thought, but have you done a search to see what your make and model car is selling for in your region on Craigslist? You might also want to check some local car dealer websites to get an idea. My mom was trying to sell my Grandpa's car and she had it listed for the Kelly Blue Book price, but there were several in the area selling for less. She dropped her price to be inline with the competition and the car was gone in just about 2 days. Good luck...I hope it sells!

It's still here in my driveway. I did research what other cars are going for (same make and model) - I am right on the money and my car is newer than the others listed. I hope it is out of here soon!

Man, sorry to hear that! There is nothing worse than having a vehicle taking up a spot in the driveway that you just want to get rid of! I hope it sells soon!

I'm sorry to hear that too. I am still wishing you the best of luck. Is there a spot in the area you live in where people can park their cars with 'For Sale' signs on them? We have a street here where people can park their cars for sale.

I finally sold it! I put it on Craigslist again and in 1 day I had 4 more calls. The guy is picking it up tomorrow! I can't wait for it to be gone and I can't wait for the money! My savings account will be happy!

Thanks for all the tips everyone!
