Texting While Driving

A major pet peeve of mine. Even with the law passed, I still constantly catch people texting behind the wheel or even have the audacity to have the phone to their ear with one hand on the wheel. I'm so sick of it! Especially when I've almost gotten into fender benders with a couple of them. What's it going to take and why are people so addicted to their phones? We lived without them for many, many years and seemed to do just fine.

I see a lot of it going on when I'm in my truck, I guess since I can see in the little cars easier. I saw one lady putting make up on going about 55-60mph the other day. Had the vanity mirror down and her head stuck up to it.

I agree! There are too many people on the road still texting and talking on their phones while driving. If you have to talk while you drive, then put the phone down and hit the speaker button so that both hands are on the wheel. I can't tell you how many times someone did not see me crossing a street or parking lot because they were on a cell phone. It makes me mad, I could be seriously injured if hit by a car while walking.

I don't text while the car is moving. If I am at a red light that I know takes 4 minutes to change green (I have timed these suckers because certain lights take forever) and I am fully stopped, then I might respond to a text. However, as soon as that light turns green, I put the phone down and don't touch it until I'm done driving or at another complete stop for a while.

Texting while driving is illegal in most states now, I believe. It doesn't seem to be being enforced. They've done enough studies to show that it impairs reactions that people should know enough to be responsible, but it seems that too many people think, "Oh, *I* can handle it!"

Yeah, the texting and putting makeup on really makes me angry. Why in the world do people think they can multitask like that when driving a car? Considering how many accidents there are each year and the fact you can easily lose your life in one, I don't know why anyone would take that risk.

I read somewhere's that the number one most dangerous thing you can do while driving is drink a hot beverage; texting and putting on makeup were also in the top 5.

I am also amazed at how people has no value for their life or for others. They know how dangerous it is, but still think that it will never happen to them.

Jason, glad to hear that you are a truck driver that doesn't do it. In my city, I have seen truck drivers with a long trailers making turns with a cell to their ears. They don't even bother with bluetooth. If car drivers are dangerous while texting or using their phone, just imagine how much dangerous are truck drivers texting or talking on the phone.

Coincidently, I was driving on a two lane highway today, coming fast around a curve and a car in the other lane veered over the line and came very close to hitting me head on, or at least swiping me. And when the driver got closer, guess what? She had her phone to her ear and she had a smirk on her face. And I wanted to wipe it right off! lol

Never. I do not even like loud music when I am driving and too much chatter bothers me just the same. I will never understand why people think that texting is okay to do when driving.

I am tired with it also. They just don't think or what? I don't think there is such an important and urgent text message that it's worth to risk your life to reply it.
