I thought this was so very cool, that someone like Rick Hendrick would buy the very first Chevrolet Volt and help out this school. Here's the article:

General Motors idea of auctioning off the first retail Chevrolet Volt found a very valid winner: ChargeOn, or as we better know him, NASCAR team owner Rick Hendrick.

A couple of days ago, when someone with the screen name ChargeOn won the auction with the highest bid, we all started wondering who the Good Samaritan might be to be willing to shell out a hefty $225,000 to benefit the Detroit Public Schools Foundation. The online charity auction which came to a close on Tuesday was meant to contribute towards the math, science, engineering and technical education initiatives of the foundation.

The highest bidder turned out to be Hendrick, the owner of Hendrick Motorsports, who had always cradled a soft spot for Chevys. The Volt bears the vehicle identification number BU10002 and had rolled of the production line at Detroit-Hamtramck. The first Volt to be sold in the US, Hendrick’s model wears Viridian Joule, the first color we saw the Volt in; a Light Neutral themed interior with dark accents, Premium Trim Package, Rear Camera, polished wheels and a Park Assist Package.

Hendrick saw the auction as a chance to grab a piece of history while doing something worthwhile for the society. A Chevrolet dealer for more than 30 solid years, Hendrick was fascinated by the Volt as one of the “most exciting and important cars” since he got into the business.

I like Hendrick Motorsports so this doesn't surprise me at all. I have heard a lot of good things that Rick Hendrick has done in the past. He's a very generous man.
