The two things a car deal needs to have: USED purchase

So ok, you've found the wheels you want, and they're at a dealership.... it's time to negotiate the price you're going to pay for this vehicle.

No matter what the numbers say, you want to include the following on the paperwork, and make sure it's initialed:

SUBJECT TO MECHANICAL INSPECTION (getting a mechanic you trust to look over the wheels is worth the money, and should always be done unless you're able yourself)

&

SUBJECT TO FINANCING

Don't let the dealership arrange your financing, arrange your own with a bank that knows you, it could save you in interest over the long term.

If you change your mind about the purchase, one of those clauses will get you out of the deal. Non-flagship dealers are notorious for making the use of either clause really difficult, but name-brand ones have more at stake and will often just quietly 'unwind' the deal.

It can give you a good week to re-think things and make sure you didn't get "had".
