I considered tire chains for better traction. I checked my manual to see what's involved. It said NOT to use chains due to lack of clearance, but to use "another type of traction device that will fit." What other types are there?
How old is your vehicle? The heavy, chain-link type of tire chains have been replaced with ones that are much less bulky. If your vehicle is even a couple of years old, the new design might work.
There are two new types of traction devices that have entered the market recently. One is an adhesive of sorts that is an aerosol spray, the other is like a blanket that slips over the tires. The spray isn't very good, so says Consumer Reports. The blanket-type device is a little better, but still not as good as chains or straps.
I have a 2008 Chevy Trailblazer. I was thinking "Wow, tire chains have been around forever---now all of a sudden their too bulky for today's models?" Thanks for the info!
