Would you want to have a flying car?

I was reading that a vehicle that can be driven on the road and flown short distances is scheduled to be released in 2012. It's an amazing concept, but I don't think I'd want to have one of the first "flying cars", even if I could afford it. It sounds like a lot of fun, but I think I'd be scared that the technology might not be completely safe. Would you be adventurous enough to try a vehicle like this?

You wouldn't want a flying car where I live. I live in a place that was voted worst place in the country for road rage. There would be a lot of deaths just from people getting out of their cars to fight and falling to the ground. lol. Really, I'd want no part of this. There are already so many accidents and bad crashes, and that number would skyrocket with flying cars. :rip:

I have always wondered how you would drive a flying car without getting in an accident. I mean without roads and lines how would you know what the traffic rules are?

Haha philio. I knew it wasn't safe, but I never actually thought about those details you just said. I guess I'm a little slow. :p Maybe we just fly over the real roads and just have glass bottom cars. It could happen. :heh:

That's a good point in terms of a possible future with many people who had flying cars. In this case though, I think this vehicle is being treated like an aircraft and a car. I'd look at it as more of a private plane that you can also drive on the road. You need some sort of pilot's license to fly it, in addition to your driver's license to take it on the road. I'd imagine you have to follow all of the same rules as everyone else when you're flying.

Still, your post does make me wonder what people might do in the future if there were indeed millions of flying cars around. Would they figure out some way to construct lanes in the air?

I agree about there being a huge potential for crashes and accidents. I also think that it would be awkward controlling a flying car - at least as they show them in movies and cartoons.

No because if I had one that would mean every other person in the world would too. We already have enough people who can not drive on roads, and now you want them to fly? :)

Unless they come up with some incredible safety features and a fail safe GPS. I prefer to stay anchored to the ground where I feel safer.

I would love a flying car! Man can you imagine the fun it would be. I would hope you could program it and then sleep when you were driving too. Talk about awesome!

That's a great attitude Hotrod25, finally we have some optimism! It's not that I disagree with the others in terms of the potential dangers, but who knows how technology will evolve in the future. Five hundred years ago people probably thought that the idea of motorized automobiles and flying planes was absurd, but look at where we are today.
