Warming the car

Warming the car up

My friend left his car with me as he went abroad for like a month, partly on business and partly to get rest. How often should I warm the car up? Is it OK to warm it up 3 days a week or should I do it every morning?

I've learned that it is better to run the car than just warm it up. You can drive the car for a few minutes to warm it up. Warming the car will only do good on the machine and not all the parts of the car.

Roller is right, I would drive the car once a week. Take it for a good drive say every Sunday. We did this for my grandmothers car and we also put those gas tank treatments in her tank from time to time to clean anything that settled.

It's a good point, thanks Roller for the advice. You remind me of another car I have ever kept. I just warmed the car up every three days without running it. The battery was discharged after one month and the car wouldn't start.

I take it you live in a colder climate? Where I live we just disconnect the battery before we go on holidays. Yes, I would definately agree with the above people and take it out for 15 mins to get the power steering and tranni fluid flowing as well.

Yes I agree that you should start the car, let it get warm (the oils moving throughout the engine) and then move the car around. It needs to be run a bit. I would say you would only have to do it every 3 or 4 days or so. If it's cold (frigid) where you are, you would do it more often.
