Positively P***ED

Look, I don't make excuses for the fact that me and the Missus smoke: we know it's not a good thing, and we don't smoke in the house, but in the garage.

We also don't smoke in our vehicles, if avoidable.

What has me so hopping mad? I saw a mom, in an SUV, loaded with kiddies.... smoking. The windows were up, too, because it's so damnably cold out.

I was mad enough to shake, you don't DO that to children!!!!! :mmph:

I hate this too! A woman in front of me today was driving erratically. When I finally passed her (had to, she was going slow and weaving) she had a new cigarette in her mouth, so was probably weaving as she lit it. Three kids in back-it's child abuse.

That is just plain wrong! I can't even stand it when I have to sit behind a driver at a light who is smoking and places the cigarette outside the window because even if I roll up my windows, the smell still gets in through the vents in my car and I have to breathe in the smoke. If I can't stand that, I can't imagine what it must have been like inside that car for those children.

I recently quit smoking actually over a year ago but still. I hate the idea of parents doing this, they should be fined for it.

I'm not a smoker (couldn't; I'm allergic), but I know what you mean. At the same time, though, we don't want them to legislate morality. The government doesn't need to be involved; it's not their place. It would be nice if people used a bit of common sense, though!

My mom used to smoke, on the porch, never inside. If the children where outside, she would not smoke. The same for one of my friends. He will not smoke in my vehicles, around my daughter, or in my house. He steps outside.

You are pretty much describing me and the Missus. It's called "consideration": having the addiction is one thing, exposing others to my lack of willpower is another entirely.

If I light up while out visiting, it's outside, and I always make sure to leave no trace behind me, discreetly disposing of the butt.

Egads, this still happens? With all that we know today, people still do that?

I know smokers that can't stand to be in a vehicle that's being smoked in, for crying out loud: it's too small of a space, and not only do the passengers pay for it, everyone in the vehicle REEKS of tobacco smoke for the experience: EW.

But stupidity is how laws get made, right?

It's hard to believe with all the knowledge we have about the effects of cigarette smoking that people even do it anymore, let alone tox-ing the kids too.
