Are MTV show to risque?

With all these shows on MTV, ie. Jersey Shore, Teen Mom and Skins, is MTV crossing the border? What message are they trying to send to teens? I know that kids today have no guidance and are held accountable for almost nothing but whose fault is it? Is it the parents or television programming?

I think they are still on the other line but they are getting pretty close to crossing it. I'm not sure they have a message they want to send out with these shows. They are more or less just trying to get viewers. I did hear that they may be canceling Skins since they are losing sponsors like mad.

Never heard of skins. Jersey Shore is a last resort and more of a laugh. Teen Mom the wife will watch. They are getting risky, but they always try to push the limit. Started with Beavis & Butthead and gone from there.

Skins is terrible! It's all about drugs and sex and they are teenagers! What the heck? I don't mind Teen Mom though. I think it is teaching our kids to not have unprotected sex, who wants to be a teen mom and miss hanging with friends and going to college?

Beavis & Butthead were mild compared to what MTV has for programming now. I've only seen clips of Skins and it's not something that interests me. Another show that popped into my head as bad is The Real World. All it is watching a bunch of kids in a house having sex and drinking. I don't know whose world that is but it's NOT the real world.

I don't mine the Real world when they are playing the challenge games. I don't like the Real world when it's just them living in the house - drinking, fighting, and having sex.

I remember when MTV used to be about music and playing videos, it has gone so far off on a tangent that now the shows just seem like glorified Jerry Springer programming. It's all about shock value but the irony is that we've become so desensitized that nothing is shocking anymore.

I'll back that, 110%.

Little House on the Prairie and The Waltons wouldn't engage the young'uns of today, they've become so jaded and immune to violence and trash on the boob-tube that producers keep upping the ante.

I've never seen Jersey Shore, I never will. Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew? Not a chance. I'm aware these shows are on the idiot-box, but I'm more likely to find a show like the one I watched recently on the crystal caves of Naica.
