Are Rental Cars Safe?

Apparently, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration hasn't been keeping check on rental car companies and whether they've been sending their recalled rental cars in for necessary repairs. Kind of scary, considering there have been some fatal accidents involving the vehicles in question!

I have never had a problem with rental cars. However, thinking about it in terms of them sending back the recalls, it gives me cause to pause. I guess it is one more question to ask before renting the car.

It always pays to be careful and check it out as much as possible. I haven't rented that many but I think they should be checking things out a bit better.

I've always heard rental agencies were scrupulous about their maintenance. They turn their vehicles over quickly too, so a rental is usually a pretty new car. Seems like those practices would increase safety.

I always thought that rental cars were in tip-top shape. At least, I can say I've never had any problems with them. I guess I was just lucky....
