Auto doorlocks

When you are blessed to have power everything in the car is it bad when kids are locking and unlocking the doors with their hands? I was always told yes but a friend of mine disagrees.

I don't think so. Your friend is correct. Those things are meant to lock and unlock. Actually most cars do have a "door lock lock" that you can apply from the front seat. This will stop anyone else in the car other than the driver (or passenger I believe) from being able to lock or open the doors.

I have never heard that it's bad to lock and unlock the car with your hands. Do those locks on the driver's side work with hand locks? I thought they were only for the auto locks.

I don't know. My friend has a mini van where the auto lock works on all the doors but the sliding door. I have always wondered if the kids locking and unlocking it broke that one.

I don't know, I would think it's fine. I mean I unlock mine a lot with my hand and not the remote. I have not had any problems with it yet and I've been doing it for years.

I can't figure out why it would be bad. Unless they set the thing to where you can't easily reach it by hand, they have to expect people to lock and unlock it by hand, seems to me.

I don't really understand this question. But if they lock themselves in, obviously they can unlock it, as well. If they lock you out, it can be frustrating.

I have always unlocked it with my hands and have never had trouble in 8 years. I never heard that it was bad to do so. If it was bad they probably would not make it possible to do so. I have to right now because my auto lock key fob is broken.

I don't think that unlocking them by hand would be problematic. Did your friend tell you why it was bad? I would be interested in finding out.

I do not think unlocking power locks, by hand, will do anything bad. Locks were made to lock and unlock. If the kids are in the backseat, repeatedly hitting the buttons, I would use the kid safety locks.

I could see why someone might think that, because a lot of electronic things can be messed up if you make them move manually instead of using the proper electronic channels.

I really don't think it's a big deal. Like Devoted said, you can use the kid safety locks. You even have the "door lock locks" that someone else mentioned too. I'm not sure if I've seen those, but I have seen the window locks. They are good for punishing unruly passengers when you have gas. :heh:

I have to agree that it should be okay. I am not an expert, either, but those things are tested and meant to be used. I do not think it would be a problem.

I am also finding it hard to follow this but auto locks are not a bad idea after all. I never heard that doing it manually could spoil it though. You perhaps need to be careful lest you bang the thing and spoil it.

That is actually exactly what I thought. She tends to get too excited for any road trip, even something as simple as a store run. After a while I gave up and its funny, she stopped.

That is interesting. Kids can be the most amazing people around us. I would gladly go with the auto door lock option anytime. Everything manual nowadays seems to freak me out.
