Other than making the car look shiny and making water bead, what benefits does wax give to your car? If you wash it regularly, does not waxing it damage the paint?

For a start, wax helps to keep water out of any chips in the paint, which helps to limit rust risk. It makes cleaning easier as stuff doesn't stick so well to the paint. And yeah, it looks good!

It's kind of the same reason that people wax their furniture. The wax protects the finish and enhances the appearance of the waxed item. I never thought about the UV protection.

If you have a dark colored vehicle and it sits out in the sun for long periods of time, the paint will eventually fade but wax will reflect the rays and help the paint last longer. Plus keep it from chipping. Wax will also help keep the pollutants in the air from damaging your car. If you live near the ocean, the salt air also damages paint and wax can hinder that as well.
