Can you fix your car when it breaks down?

When there is a flat tire or my car breaks down for a reason or two, I have learned to fix it on my own. My grandfather taught me this valuable lesson as he would easily dismantle his Volvo and piece it up together.

Nope, not at all. I am just not mechanically inclined at all and that includes the basic changing of the tire. I rely on the cell phone and passing police to get me help if ever in need.

I can do most of the minor repairs on my car myself. I just changed the thermostat a few weeks ago. The biggest trouble was there is limited maneuvering space in that area of the engine.

That is the fear I normally have it at times. What if something snapped and you were not able to fix it?

Makes more sense to leave the more challenging tasks to the pros, don't you think?

I have not learned how to fix everything on my car, but I can do brakes and filters and spark plugs and the basic stuff like that. I don't always do it myself anyway, but I can.

Not everything but I'm getting better. My hubby and dad fix most of the problems but not all of the problems. You know it is something big when my car is at the shop.

Somehow I think it is necessary to be a little mechanically inclined. There might arise an instance where no help is forthcoming and you are left alone.

Back in the day, I was more worried about the car breakdown potential, but today we have cell phones, and that really does relieve a lot of the worry and stresses with not knowing how to deal with car problems.

I do all my own maintenance, and I can do basic jobs like changing my brake pads and rotors. In fact I did the brakes today on my 2001 Chevy Silverado 1500. I had to get a few new tools, but the job went pretty quick and I saved myself a bunch of money.

Absolutely not. I did not inherit the mechanical aptitude gene at all! I know how to read the manual, and I know how to take it in for scheduled maintenance though.

I can fix a flat tire and do other minor repairs myself. I love to learn to fix my own car, the problem is the lack of tools and time available.
