Car Color & Insurance Premiums

I was told that there are certain colors that insurance companies will charge more premium for. Is this true? I wonder how do they figure this out. Is this the same nationwide or does it differ from state to state?

I have also heard about this. However, I have never had any problems. I think I always pick the safe colors. I have heard that red is a no-no car if you want an affordable insurance.

I did some research on this several years ago. Red was definitely a cause for higher insurance (and a greater chance of being pulled over). I'm not sure if any of the other colors affect rates. I suspect "flames" would probably be a cause for higher premiums also!
