Chains

Does anyone use these infernal things in the winter months? Do you have a preference for the type?

Do you carry them during snow months as a rule?

I have never used chains, but after this past winter, I would love to have a set just in case. Are they too expensive to get? Are they difficult to put on?

I have never used them, either, but my parents did. They lived in the northern USA and found them necessary in the winter months. I think my dad kept them in the trunk when they weren't on the tires.

In our area, there has never been a need for them. I think that once I saw a bus with them. I have always wondered if they contribute to the potholes. there are so many people that don't know how to drive in the snow that they should be required to use them.

Thankfully I don't live where it snows, so I don't have to worry about carrying chains around unless I drive up to the mountains. However, because we are not used to using these things, my husband had a really hard time putting them on and then an even harder time taking them off because somehow they got tangled when he was trying to get it off. I thought I was going to freeze my butt off while I waited for him to get the chains off.
