I hate to admit it but I have never changed my own oil. I have a Kia Sedona that needs an oil change and I thought I may attempt it myself. How hard is it to change oil in a vehicle like this? Should I get someone to show me how first?
It is definitely a good idea for someone to show you how to do it. Or at least get someone who can guide you on how to change the oil yourself if you have no experience in changing oils yet. It is not rocket science but you will end up in a mess if you don't know exactly what you are doing.
I've changed the oil a few times. I do not really think you end up saving much though. I might start changing in on the SUV as I no longer get free changes from the dealer.
I may try to find someone who can teach me. I think it would be a step toward independence if I started doing more of this type of stuff on my own. Thanks guys!
With the wonderful world at our fingertips now through the internet, you can find out how - step by step - to change the oil of any vehicle. I'm sure it's easy, we do our own vehicles with no problems.
Just be sure you have the right oil filter and enough oil.
Once you've changed your own oil, you'll wonder why you didn't do it sooner. On one of my cars, just to make life easier, I installed a valve to replace the oil pan bolt and now I just give it a quarter turn and out comes the old stuff.
I think if you can get someone to show you that's a start, but if you're not mechanically minded then tread cautiously. I work at service centre and pretty much every Saturday we have someone come in who has drained there trans fluid or snapped there filter body by mistake.
