Cleaning the Engine

About once per month, I'll take my car to the self-service car wash and spray clean the engine. Of course I cover the distributor and the coil, but everything else is degreased, scrubbed and rinsed. I firmly believe this helps your engine run better and cooler. I've been doing it for years and it's never done anything negative to any of my cars.

I do this also, and have since I bought my first car. Just like the interior and the body of the car, the engine needs to be cleaned of dust, dirt and grease on a regular basis, to keep it running right and running cool

I haven't done it in a while, but try to do it twice a year. My truck needs it really bad.

Hmm, I never thought of this. Now I will have to add it to my routine. I want to make sure that my car lasts me a long long time.

Add me in with the ones that do this. My daddy taught me this when I was 14. He had an old Chevy truck, looked like crap but it ran like a race horse.

Lizzy, just make sure you cover the coil and distributor with foil before you start. Otherwise, it may not start again until these parts dry up.

I know that I should, but I don't. What do you use to degrease the engine? Is foil effective enough at covering the coil and distributor and is there any other electrical part that needs to be covered?
