Coffee, news and TV while you wait

I was a new face to this shop. I was from a different city after all. I just wanted a quick tire change. I bought two.

While I waited I was seated in front of a coffee table with free coffee on top of it. I was handed a newspaper. Then if I preferred, I could switch the TV channel anywhere I would like.

I almost forgot I was in a shop. I thought, these guys know about customer service!

What's your most pleasant experience with a shop?

That sounds great. I would say my best experience was when I took my car to the autowash and as I was leaving a staff member ran out to tell me I had won a prize. (I was the 1000th customer or something.)

Taking my father to the Harley dealer. They have popcorn, a pool table, soda, coffee and all sorts of goodies. On the weekends they used to cook hamburgers and hot dogs. I do not think they do that anymore.

That's interesting Angelinus. These shops have really evolved a lot. Before, all they ever thought about was to fix your car and leave you while they're at it. We didn't mind before, because that's what we wanted them to do anyway.

Jason, Harley would lose out if they stop doing it, I think. With the price people to buy a Harley, customers really deserve a treat.

I'm excited to see what others in this forum have to share.

It's wonderful and it's what I will normally get also when I take my car to the shop nearby for repair or service.

Jason, you make me want to get a Harley.

We also have an oil change place in town with a "deluxe" waiting room such as you describe. It's owned by a husband and wife team.

Hello Guy and Fanbelt! Thanks for your stories :) We have usually associated these "deluxe" stuff to service centers in dealerships. But now, independent shops are getting more savvy. I like that. The innovations give us more pleasant options.

There's a Toyota dealership near where I live. They advertise that, when you bring your car in for service, they have free lunch, Manicure Monday (for the ladies), free Wi-fi and a host of other "goodies."

Thanks for sharing this FiveSpeed. I love the "free lunch" part :) We make sure we come at 11am to avail of this. Anyhow, Wifi is indeed another attraction that shops can entice us with.

Man, I need to move. "Deluxe" around here means the toilet paper roll in the bathroom is on the hanger and not sitting on the tank. The magazines in ours never change, the TV gets three channels (weather, news, judge shows), and the closest thing to a drink is cupping your hand under the faucet in the sink.

I do not know if it is every Harley dealer or not, but the owner of the local dealership is said to be very generous like that. I think that is the same owner who has a car dealership that will pick up your vehicle from your house/work, give you a loaner, and bring your vehicle back, all for an oil change.

Hi Tabby! Perhaps competition among shops there isn't that intense yet :) If a shop decides to be a little bit more exotic in their customer service, do you think that shop would one day get most of the business in your area?
