Do car spoilers really help?

I know car spoilers are necessary for race cars. But I also see them in regular cars. At car speeds of 50-60 mph, do these spoilers really help? Or are they there purely for styling purposes?

I think most do not provide much help until you hit around 70mph.

Since the manufacturers do not do much with putting spoilers on cars, I would not think they do much at all for everyday, typical driving performance.

Maybe they're there primarily to enhance the looks. I just find it amusing that some people actually spend to have them on their cars. At most speeds they're pretty much useless.
