Driving Barefoot

Do you ever drive your car barefoot? Other than moving my car while barefoot, I've driven with flip flops on and it's really hard to keep my foot on the pedal.

I've driven barefoot a couple of times. I didn't have any trouble with it, but I prefer to have shoes, or at least sandals on. I think you can grip the pedals better with something on your feet.

I've only ever driven with sneakers on. Driving barefoot just doesn't seem practical to me. Plus your shoes give you some sort of protection if you were to get in an accident.

Isn't there a requirement for appropriate footwear? If not, there really should be. Bare feet just do not provide the grip needed to maintain safe control of a car.

Seems to me bare feet wouldn't be slippery unless they were sweaty. I've seen people drive in socks and THAT seems like it might be slippery. I've driven barefoot before, but I don't do it often.

Bare feet aren't going to compare to rubber when it comes to traction I'm afraid. Even on a rubber topped pedal it won't, and on a metal pedal it certainly won't. And you probably couldn't push as hard on the brakes with bare feet.

I thought driving barefoot was illegal? All I know is that I've never done it, I can't picture myself stomping on the brakes and down-shifting in a flash without something on my feet.
