I put new floor mats in my car when I first bought it. It is muddy here in the country. I bought the deeper plastic ones with the raised edges thinking they would keep the mud and water off the carpet. I have to say that my carpet is already dirty! What kind of floor mats do you have and do they work? I'm going to scrub the carpet with hopes to get the ground in mud up!

I have bought floor mats because of how they looked, but performance-wise, I have always been disappointed. Stuff always seems to get under the mats, no matter which kind I get.
I was fearing this to be honest. I've never really bought anything other then what came with the car. I paid a good penny for these mats and they stink. Maybe I will get some cheap carpet and put down on the floor and then a floor mat. That way when the carpet gets stained it won't be the carpet on the floor.
I have darker carpet on my car so I don't really notice it getting stained. I am not sure what the best would be but I just use some decorated ones that have spiky things on back to keep them in place. I haven't really had trouble with stuff going under them. Some car washes (at least where I am) have carpet shampooers by the vacuums and they usually do a pretty good job.

The best floor mats I ever had actually came from Kmart! They were inexpensive, but had the pointy things on the bottom that kept them in place. I can't say they looked the best, but if you want to keep the carpet clean, you might see if they still carry them.
