From scratch?

A friend of mine dreams of building his car from scratch....well, not exactly like that. He planned to purchase the parts and assemble it himself. Come on friend, it's a car, not a desktop.

If your friend has a real passion for cars, which he must, you should be supportive and encouraging. Their will be nothing more satisfying for him than to eventually get behind the wheel of something he has put much hard work into. Building a whole vehicle takes much skill. I respect anyone who has the guts to actually go for it.

I wish I had the knowledge to do it. I saw a competition once in which a team of two people would unassembled a car to reassemble it next to it. I couldn't believe how fast they could do it. The proof was that the car would start with no problem.

I know people who do this as a hobby and I think it's a great way to stay busy and keep your mind going. My fiancé is thinking about doing this when we have extra money in the future:high5:

My father has built over a dozen cars and I mean from "scratch". He did his first one when he was 19 and it has been his hobby ever since. Right now he's working on a '67 Corvette. He has a full-time career, but cars are his passion. I have a friend who is 24 and he has built 3 already, his first was at the age of 17. I could never do it, but some people just have a natural talent.

It might take a while, but I have heard of guys doing this too. If he is really into cars and is good at this kind of stuff, or even if he isn't but has an iron will to see it through, he can pull it off.
