Gas prices again?

The earthquake in Japan has a major refinery afire over there; Japan is the 3rd largest petroleum consumer in the world.

I wonder what that is going to do to supply, demand, and price? It's up over $5/gallon in some parts of Canada as it is!

I'm certain that the US government will jack up the prices just because of that. There were some higher ups that want the price to get to $5 by summer - this might just be their excuse for getting it there. :eek:hwell:

I'm swearing about it, in truth: it's going to be another excuse to gouge folks at the pump, and because of the shell game that's played with futures, we'll never truly know just how badly we're getting screwed.

Do they even really need an excuse anymore? Perhaps it's a plot to get people's disgust level high enough that they will start buying alternative vehicles. Sure make you wonder.

Gas prices are bad everywhere. I'm not too sure though that the crisis in Japan should change things that much-if they are consumers, well their consumption should drop. Shouldn't that lead to a drop in prices?

Yea it has been climbing the ladder here too in San Diego and has reached $5 in certain parts of town. That happened before the Japan earthquake and there was no reason for it because we don't get our oil (in San Diego) from the places at war in the middle east (they were blaming the rising prices on them). I bet it will skyrocket here too. I don't know how we will survive because there isn't really a good public transportation system here since San Diego is so spread out. I don't know if I will even be able to afford to drive.
