It's A Gas!

Many people are filling their tires with nitrogen gas instead of air. There are some real pluses for using nitrogen. Have you heard of this? Have you made the switch yet?

I haven't considered it, though I have heard wind of it. You have to pay more for the nitrogen, right? I think that's something that will deter people if the benefits don't outweigh the literal cost.

The Santa Fe came with nitrogen. It is not bad, supposed to leak slower. However, you are not supposed to mix air with it, so no topping off at the gas station. Not sure how much extra it costs when getting new tires either.

So how do you get nitrogen in to the tires if you cant mix. I have never heard of this. Do you have to go to a special place to get nitrogen tires?

Any of the tire dealers can do it and lots of car service places too. It's only like $4 a tire to convert. It's free nitrogen for life from the place I had my conversion done. I've never needed any though.

What type of benefit is it supposed to provide? I would think it would be hard to deal with if you were on the road and had a tire low. Do the benefits outweigh the pitfalls?

Lots of pluses: increased fuel efficiency, longer tire life, increased safety, much less tire pressure fluctuation and longer rim life, as shown by numerous studies. NASCAR teams swear by it.

I've never heard of it. But that's nothing strange. I usually am the last to know anything. I may have to check into converting for my cars and truck. It sounds like a lot of benefit to be had. What about risk or is there any?
