I'm considering trading in my Sienna for a SUV. Something like a Tahoe or Expedition. Has everyone ever made this trade and regretted it? I definitely need the space.
I haven't ever had a van, but there is a lot of space in a Tahoe or the other bigger suv's. I think the van could be slightly more helpful with the bucket seats. That's the only disadvantage to a SUV I can think of.
Another thing that you should consider is the gas mileage. Minivans tend to get better gas mileage than big SUVs, because of the weight difference. Just something to think about…
I have a Chevy Trailblazer, and it's a great size for everything I need it to do. It's bigger than a Ford Explorer or a Chevy Blazer, but not as big as a Ford Expedition or a Chevy Suburban. It gets 19mpg.
I think mostly it depends on how many seats you need - are you switching for cargo or passenger space? We currently need something with at least 8 seats, so we're pretty limited in our choices.
