Most expensive repair?

What is the most you have ever paid for a repair? I once paid $1,500 for a new transmission. I don't know if I would really want to do that again.... It was for a Ford Taurus and about two years later, the transmission was slipping again!

I remember being told by a relative who is a mechanic not to bother buying a Ford Taurus I was looking at, because he said they were in his shop all the time. I was once quoted around the same price to fix a transmission, and I decided to sell the car instead because it just wasn't worth it to me.

I once paid $2,000 for transmission related repairs. I always dread hearing the words, "It might be the transmission". My good friend paid $3500 to get her wheelchair lift fixed. Apparently the cost of up-keeping wheelchair vans is quite high.

Put in a re-built engine into one of my cars years ago. As I recall that was $900 or so back then. I'll bet it's double or triple that now.
