New phone and its capabilities

So this new phone has a dock that can be mounted in the car. When it's put in the dock, it changes the whole look of the screen, and you can set it to be a GPS like Garmin or TomTom. Very cool! Someone said that this phone has internet, too, so you could watch Netflix while you drive down the road...

I am sure its much better than dealing with the price tag on a TomTom setup. I still use an iPhone and my spouse has an Andriod, his mapping system is better than mine but that is okay. During long road trips he is driving anyways. :)

I use my Android's navigation app for all my direction needs. I like it because you can layer traffic lines and road construction to find out where you should detour and where you might run into delays.

I'm amazed at the things that these new smart phones can do now. I have a smart phone but it isn't nearly as advanced as the ones I keep hearing about. I think it's a pretty cool technology and would've been sweet to have when I was growing up.

My smart phone has navigation but I don't have a dock. I also prefer to use my Garmin for directions because it has the dock and it's just simpler to use for me. My Android is for back up.

What type of phone is it out of curiosity? Right now I have an iPhone and the only issue I have is that now when I dock it to my PC it auto imports (and deletes) the photos on the phone. I seldom dock it in the car since I have a holder on the console that works perfect for it.

That sounds like it would be pretty handy for driving. What happens if a phone call comes in while you're following the map, though? That might mess you up, wouldn't it?

It's a Motorola Atrix (using AT&T). The dock connects to the electricity in the car (or can be plugged into an inverter), so it charges while it's in there. If someone calls in while using the map, I can talk using speakerphone... and it will still show me the map. It's very cool.

Ah, I'm glad they thought that through. So many times they add features to electronics that end up being useless or impractical. Sounds like a really fun toy. ;-)

Well, I have heard a lot said about the Motorola Atrix and this even makes me more eager to get it. However, I have a friend with an iPhone and even though he resents docking, he can never divulge his reasons.
