Other than coffee?

Other than coffee, what would you drink if you felt sleepy while you are driving your car but it's not convenient for you to stop? Any herb which will help you fight off sleepiness?

Outside of coffee, I drink energizer drinks that are available in all convenient stores under different brand names. Some come in ready-to-drink bottles. Some come in sachet, the contents of which you must mix with a bottle of water.

I'm a soda pop drinker. If I'm really tired though, I would rather stop and walk around for a few minutes. The crash from energy drinks, coffee and pop are just too hard to handle when I'm driving.

Pop, it's what I drink when I'm sleepy. I don't drink coffee or those energy drinks. If I am super tired then I will pull over and lock the doors and take a quick snooze. Of course I only do this on long road trips.

The guys that drive for a living are limited to 13 hrs per day of road time, or they get into trouble with the Feds. "Road weary" is one thing, but driving tired has a hypnotic effect that turns you into a potential weapon behind the wheel. One "nod off" and a jerk when you 'come to, and you're in the ditch, or wrapped around a telephone pole.

Plan the trip so that you're fresh, and get the necessary rest. You're operating between 2,000 and 5,000 pounds of machinery that can devastate if you lose control.

I remember one year driving for UPS during Christmas time. It was a Thursday or Friday and I was hitting the 60 hour weekly limit. I had two of the medium cans of Monster, a Large Can, and a few small ones. Only to find out from a friend that there is a warning on the cans on how many you should drink per day. I was yawning by the time I got home though.

@Dodge Doll. UPS had a 14 hour a day, 60 hours a week limit. Not sure if there are different regulations for different types of drivers though. I liked it during the Christmas season, as I would typically be requested to be off the clock by 4 or 5pm on Friday since I used up all my hours. Got me out of driving a few Saturday's before Christmas.

Coffee, soda, juice or water in that order most days but the weekends. I am trying to cut down on the caffeine intake and work to get back into shape, so while its not as tasty it is healthy.

I would take that 5 hour energy drink. I took that once when I had to drive home from Disneyland and it kept me awake the whole drive home! :)

The 13-hr road time pertains to long-haul truckers on the freeway, if my memory serves me right. They're allowed 16 hrs a day, but 13 is the maximum number of hours they can log on the road: the other three are for non-driving duties such as paperwork and what-have.

I remember starting to drift off once when I was still a teen, it was without a doubt one of the scary moments behind the wheel. After that its only been topped by two things, both wrecks. The first someone ran a light and slammed into me and the other I had came out of an intersection (that should have a light but did not) and someone slammed into the side of me (little less than T bone, they hit the left back panel).

For me, a cup of coffee will usually do the trick. But if it's not available (most possibly it is), I would rather stop and do some simple stretching. It's better than continuing to drive and risking your life.
