Selling my truck to my son. Should I?

I am considering selling my 2005 Ford Ranger pick-up to my oldest son. He has been using it for almost a year now. I pay the insurance. I am going to ask him for $2000. He has been paying for all the repairs and upkeep. I only want $50 a week because he needs to be able to afford insurance too. His job is not always good because it depends on the weather. He does tree work. So what do you think? Does this sound like a fair deal?

Have you done any research to find out the value of the vehicle? I would check with Kelly Blue Book and ask him for however much they say it's worth, minus the cost of the repairs he's already paid for.

Sounds very fair to me. Why not sell it to him! He is already driving it and paying for repairs. I think $50 sounds fair too. Can he afford it? Really $200 a month is cheap and it will be paid off soon.

I did check the blue book but I don`t want to sell it to my son for that much. Even though I do have to pay the insurance, he is my son. Thank you for the advice though. He can afford $200 a month. Anything more than that and he wouldn`t be able to afford it plus the insurance. And he needs a car or truck because he wrecked his about 2 years ago. Not his fault. I don`t need my truck really. Thank you both.

Selling truck to son

My brother-in-law started doing this when his son was just out of high school. Over the years, my brother-in-law always got stuck in the deal. The son ran into problems paying, children came along and so did a wife who spends all his money. Now my brother-in-law is expected to help out and not complain. I think this is wrong.

I think its a very fair deal, remembering back to when I was your sons age my parents wanted to charge me almost as much as a dealership would. Then again back in those days the insurance was cheaper for me too.
