Service Engine Light

Does anyone know what could make a service engine light come on only when it is raining or high humidity? It will come on every so often when we have rain and then in a few days, it goes back off. Any ideas?

There are a variety of things that could cause this, but the bottom line is that something is drawing moisture. What that something is can be difficult to diagnose though. If you're mechanically handy, you could do some internet research to look for a list of parts to check.

Thank you! I hadn't thought about checking on the Internet for this particular problem. I told this to the mechanic, but he kind of brushed me off since his machine didn't show any error codes that could explain this. I will do some research and see what I can find out.

It could be a problem with the distributor cap. I know I had this problem back in college and my car would stall out every time it rained or thought about raining. It left me in some pretty dangerous situations before I figured out that was the problem.

I believe I had a problem with the distributor cap one other time. Would an error code show up if that was the problem? The mechanic said that the computer wasn't showing any type of error code when he ran the diagnostics.

I am not sure that it would show an error code but you could always have a mechanic actually check the distributor cap out. I hate how they rely so heavily on the computer to tell them what is wrong these days.

I have a dodge and mine kept coming on. After checking everything under the hood, I discovered it was the gas tank cap. The seal was faulty and after getting a new cap, I've had no more lights.
