Video Screen at the Driver's Seat?

I was shocked to read that Ford is making its touch screen in front of the driver video capable. They actually seem to giggle that drivers can now watch videos! Well, they quickly qualified their statement saying that the video option is available only when the car is parked. Now that I think is cool.

Honestly, why would anyone need a video screen in a car, especially in front of the driver? Have we become so technologically dependent that we have to be able to watch videos in our vehicles?

Frankly, that sounds a little over the top to me. Maybe if you drive the 405 between LA and San Diego, it would be good, though. You could watch something while stranded in traffic.

If you have a hired driver, that guy is the most fortunate beneficiary of this technological feature. It's not a bad idea to have something to watch while you're stuck in traffic, isn't it? The question is, would you pay extra for it? Hahaha. That's the killer question, I think.

Yeah I like the idea for when you are parked up. It would be great for those who travel for work and have to eat lunch at the wheel and so on. I do hope they have it set up to be disabled if the engine is running though.

Hi Angelinus, that's my understanding. It is disabled when the engine is running. It's enabled only when it's parked. So, when the traffic is not moving, you must stop the engine in order to enable it. That's a safety feature, of course.

You could do this with aftermarket stereo's for a while. They are supposed to all be played only when the parking break is on, but there are ways around that.

I wonder if the truckers have this option on the big rigs. It would make sense for them for when they have to park for the night.

Hi Guy! It's definitely a great option for trucks, I agree. But if it were on a truck, I think the video would be much better appreciated at the back where drivers lie down to rest.
