When Money Is Tight

Sooner or later, it seems that everybody encounters times in their lives when money is tight for one reason or another. During those times, do you make car maintenence a high priority to avoid problems, or try to stretch things out to conserve cash?

Man, that is a pretty tough question. If you put of car repairs it only makes matters worse. But when money is tight how can you even afford it. That is why I do as much work on my own car as possible. So I can save the money for more important repairs.

I put car maintenance as a high priority. It's the only way we can get to work so I would be at cross purposes to ignore the problem. I do try to find the cheapest quote and do a lot of the simple things myself but I consider this as important as home maintenance.

I do a lot of my own stuff and I have buddies that can help me if I run into things I don't know how to do. I just buy the parts and they will put them in for me. Then I help them out doing things for them. Works out well.

I never skimp on preventive maintenance, and I keep it a priority. There's just too much at stake to risk any mishaps that could have been avoided. Of course some forms of maintenance probably have higher priority than others.

OK, so I'm the slacker when it comes to car maintenance when I'm broke. I do my best, but at times I may delay an oil change when necessary. Hey, at least I am not using my money to buy things I don't need! I only put off car maintenance when it is an issue of paying bills, paying rent or buying food.

I make my living driving, and time is money, so I keep maintenance a priority. In my opionion, if you can only afford one type of maintenance action, take care of the tires---the only thing between you and the road.
