I've heard that most new cars don't have cigarette lighters anymore. Is this simply because smoking is less popular and has such a stigma now? I don't smoke, but I think it's just that car makers are cheap. They'll use any excuse to leave out a feature.
Actually, I think it's mostly because they have changed them out for electrical ports, instead. It's the same sort of socket, but with a different insert.
I almost burned by car down with a cigarette lighter port. I had an adapter to make it a plug. Those things are really dangerous. I do not care if my car has a cigarette lighter or not. Smoking is bad, mm' kay!!
I have an electrical port myself and its great for the radar that I keep in the car but its horrible that I can not use a decent splitter to have that going and my phone charger at the same time. Not for short trips of course but the road ones when the person who is not driving can at least charge their phone for an emergency. People tend to call us too much during road trips too maybe we should turn the phones off.
I would also hope that taking the lighters out of cars would mean people would (at least) think twice about lighting up in a car/vehicle with kiddies in it....
Every time I see someone smoking in a vehicle with kids in it, it's all I can do not to Rambo on the driver's head.
I don't need a cigarette lighter but I do need a car with an electrical port so I can have a phone charger. I don't think I've ever actually used the lighter in my car!
