Just wondering if anyone here has taken a short course in basic car mechanics. I am not that great at regular maintenance and would like to be able to do a bit more for myself.

I've never tried either way but it strikes me that slippers would provide no traction against the pedals. Wouldn't it be painful to drive barefoot? Just keep some comfy casuals by the door if you are looking for an easy transition from home to vehicle.

Wow thanks for the replies, information and the video. I am inspired to try it for sure as I know how important it is to work on preventing future problems. (My bad habit is to ignore things until they cause a problem.)

My local car shop has a new (to them) service called 'claying' available. I have done a bit of research on it and it sounds interesting. I'd quite like to try doing it myself but I am wary of it being a bit harsh. Is there any way to be sure the clay bar is not going to damage your car?

That sounds great. I would say my best experience was when I took my car to the autowash and as I was leaving a staff member ran out to tell me I had won a prize. (I was the 1000th customer or something.)

I would rate it as a definite ten out of ten in importance but I am easily pleased and have a standard sound system installed. I prefer to spend spare money on other car related things.

That sounds really cool but wasn't the pollution pretty bad? Did you feel safe in a sidecar? Was it cold? I would like to give it a shot but I understand why people would be nervous of trying it.

I often lend my car to members of the family but it drives me crazy as they all need to move the seat to suit their height. Then I have to mess around getting it right for me again. I wish there was a device that measures/remembers the ideal seat position to make it easier!

I've never understood the 'baby on board' decals. The last thing I would want is someone being distracted reading it! I think advertising an alarm system is pretty clever though.

I prefer rain too. I have no real experience of driving in snow but I imagine it is tricky because it gets packed down and is like an ice rink!

Yeah I like the idea for when you are parked up. It would be great for those who travel for work and have to eat lunch at the wheel and so on. I do hope they have it set up to be disabled if the engine is running though.

So long as the car is not a gas guzzler then I have to admit I go for style over economy. Being single and having a leaning towards the classic look I probably make less practical choices than some people!
