    Drowsiness in long drives

Abba, other people have given you some great advice on ways to stay alert. However, I still recommend you get a health check. You shouldn't be feeling so sleepy all the time in my opinion.

    Test drives

 You do this while the owner is out with you? I guess if they start screaming that you shouldn't do a particular thing then you get the red flag!

    Reality TV

Oh I forgot about wife swap. I enjoyed that, despite worrying about the kids involved sometimes. I may be tempted back into the world of TV by the hoarding show, especially if it helps you clean out your junk.

    Test drives

I've never actually chosen a car for myself as both have been gifts. Now I am looking around for something new and am wondering what happens on a test drive. How far do you usually go? Do you make sure you get to try out the car at various speeds?

Seat Covers -- How Often Do You Change Them?

I have to admit that I don't use them. I would imagine that if you have kids climbing on seats or whatever that you'd want to change them quite often. Otherwise, well just do it when you think they need it. (Or perhaps when you visit your sister!)

    TV Shows with Cars

I loved Knight Rider, it's funny to watch those old shows now of course. However, my total favorite was the Batmobile (original show.) I did get to see the modern version when I was in Hollywood a couple of years ago but the old one still tops it for me.

    Of Ambulances and Ambulance Drivers

That's a sad story, regardless of what happened. It sounds to me like there may have been some other element at play too, maybe a mechanical fault of some kind?

    Best month for car sales

I have always heard that too, though it doesn't make much sense. I would have thought December was a month when people avoided major financial commitments!

    Reality TV

I used to really like these shows, especially Nanny 911 and The Batchelor. These days I try to avoid them as there's nothing really interesting on anymore. How about you?

Do you use seatbelts at the rear seats? I mean, really?

I always wear a belt, regardless of where I am seated. As a driver I don't want someone flying through from the back if I have to stop suddenly!

    Funny New Year Quote

I like the humor, despite the underlying message being a bit scary. It reminds me of the Garfield quote: 'I'm not overweight I'm under tall'.

    Insurance

My sister asked if I would add her to my car insurance as she would like to borrow it sometimes. I really don't mind doing it if she pays the extra but as she's a fairly new driver I am worried any accidents will send my renewal policy sky high.

    Upholstery Cleaner

That's a cool tip. How on earth did you get the idea in the first place? I am going to give it a try, with so many scented foams out there it will be a great way to clean up and freshen the interior.

    Backing up

Tabby it sounds like you are getting so much advice you're not having the chance to develop your own style! Some people find it hard to get into the groove with reversing, so all I can recommend is that you practice to find the best method for you.

    Your Normal Driving Speed

I generally stay pretty close to the maximum speed allowed on a particular road, so long as that is safe and appropriate. I have grown out of the need to overtake everything but going too slow can be hazardous to other drivers too.

    Cleaning a car in Winter

I totally agree with Bridey. You do need to be careful that the water doesn't freeze up the locks or door seals though. I would say my car gets as dirty in winter as it does in the summer and I don't live in a very changeable climate.

    Leaving The Scene And Returning

It does sound odd. I know that in major cases (such as murder), there are always strange people who claim to have done it. I just can't see the police treating someone taking responsibility in a traffic accident as an attention seeker.

Automobile Insurance for Collector Cars: How to Choose the Right Policy

Thanks for this great post. I really like classic cars and would love to own one. I do have a question though. How exactly would an insurer classify a car as 'classic'? (Is it based on age or model?)

    Pre-pay for scheduled maintenance?

It does sound attractive but I think some kind of insurance policy for the same service would be a better deal. What happens if you pay in and don't need to use it? Is it lost money?

Car Driving Safety vs Phone Calls Using the Car Speaker System

I can't deal with having much conversation from people in the car never mind from a phone call. I really find it affects my focus so I don't do either. I expect those who travel for work have to find a way to communicate with the office though, so maybe hands free is necessary for them.
