    Oil type?

Bingo! The name is what makes one brand of oil more expensive as the other. For example, Walmart brand oil is cheaper than the name brands, but if you do some research, you'll find that one company supplies both Walmart and a nationally recognized name brand.

Dried bird poop and dead bugs

Thanks for validating my use of warm water and soap. I thought there might be something else that I could be using that might work better but I guess not.

    Oil changing, how often

I change the oil in my car about once a year and I use the cheapest stuff that I can find. Years ago, auto manufacturers came out and said changing oil every 3,000-5,000 miles is a waste of money and not necessary.

    Used or New Cars??

Remember there are plenty of websites around that will help you determine the value of a used car. Sites like CarFax will give you the history of the car, too.

    Garage, cover or nothing?

I always wish that I had a garage but I have nothing but a car port attached to my house. It wouldn't take much to enclose it but I just need to money to do it.

Dried bird poop and dead bugs

What's the best best way to get rid of dried up bird poop and dead bugs without harming the paint job? I've always used warm water and soap but not sure if that's the best way.

    Security Issues

The most important thing is to make sure there is nothing of value lying around in plain site. My dad used to tell me, "never tempt a thief". Alarms are worthless because people who hear it don't care and by the time the police come to check out the alarm and find out who the owner is, your...

Windshield wipers - what a ripoff!

To replace the wiper blade on the driver's side of my van, it cost $7 - just for one side. There was a time when I could buy a pair of refills for the same price. It's just another way to rip off the consumer.

    Oil type?

Even though the car burns about a quart of oil a month, it's still a great car and get's great mileage. On top of that, it's completely paid for. Yay! :)

Windshield wipers - what a ripoff!

I don't know about anyone else, but in my part of the country, you can't buy the less expensive refills anymore for your wipers, you have pay more and buy the entire arm. Is this happening in other parts of the country?

    Oil type?

Since the model Saturn that I own is notorious for burning oil, I buy the cheap stuff and just accept the fact that it's my monthly payment for the car. LOL Why pay for the good stuff if it's just burnt away?

    What is your mileage

With my 1997 Saturn SL2, in the city I get around 30 miles per gallon. On the freeway, depending on how I drive, I can get right around 40 miles to the gallon. The best I ever did on the freeway was about 43 miles to the gallon.

Getting Rid of the Smell Inside the Car

Charcoal will probably work but I'd worry about the mess but can't be any worse than a bowl of vinegar if you're careful. Another idea is to open a box of baking soda and leaving it in the car.

    Storing bike

I make sure to drive my bike and empty out as much gasoline as possible. Then I put it on the centerstand and cover it for the winter. I also take the battery out and attach a trickler to it to keep it charged.

Getting Rid of the Smell Inside the Car

Another thing that will work is get a small bowl of vinegar and place it in the car so it can absorb the smells. Works for cigarette smells so why not vomit? Just don't drive the car when you have the vinegar in the bowl. Wait a day or two and the smell should be gone.

    Oldest car you've driven

What's the oldest car you've ever driven? There was one time when just for kicks I drove a friend's dad's 1968 Rambler. LOL I looked under the hood and there was so much space for working not like today's cars.

    Security Issues

There's nothing like a break-in or an attempted break-in to make you feel violated. Besides the suggestions from minime, put away anything that might make it tempting for someone to break into your car. My dad used to say, "never tempt a thief".

GM to shut down Saturn after Penske ends talks

Yeah, I received a piece of mail from my local Chevy dealership saying how they'll take care of my car. The problem is that mine is a 1997 so I'm really more interested in having a source for OEM parts. Think I'll give them a call and ask.

    Teen drivers and car insurance

I know a lot of parents who make their kids pay for their part of the insurance. Seems like a nice way to teach teens that when they drive poorly, there are dollar consequences attached. What do you think?

    Changing Oil

Once you've changed your own oil, you'll wonder why you didn't do it sooner. On one of my cars, just to make life easier, I installed a valve to replace the oil pan bolt and now I just give it a quarter turn and out comes the old stuff.
