    car head gasket repair

I had a '77 Buick Regal once that the head gasket blew, and even though my uncle, who is a master mechanic, fixed it, the car was never right again. As soon as you'd change the oil, within a hundred miles or so, that oil was as black as black ink. I know he did the job right. I think if I had...

    Breaking down on a trip

No, I can't say that I have. I guess I've always kept my cars in a condition that there wasn't much to break down. Don't get me wrong, I've driven plenty of older cars, but most breakdowns are either due to dead batteries, overheating radiator or the car needing oil. As long as you always...

    Car shortage

I don't know if this will be a huge problem or not. Aren't most "Japanese" cars and parts mostly manufactured in the U.S. today? I know many of the cars are, but I'm not sure about the parts. Of course, you can't make a car without the parts.

    Cruisin' The Coast

Absolutely! I used to love going cruisin'. A bunch of friends and me would pile into a car, crank up the stereo and cruise back and forth on the main drag for hours. As an adult, now you think about all that gas you wasted, but it was still a fun thing to do.

    Your First Drive

We used to own a large farm in Tennessee, and by the time I was 12 years old, I was driving my dads old Chevy all over our farm, by myself. I was tall for my age, and could reach the pedals easily, so I'd drive out to the pig pen, or the pond, or the chicken house or wherever.

    Rest Areas

When travelling on the interstate, do you often stop at rest areas? They can be great sources of information for your destination, with brochures and discount coupons. It's a good place to stop and stretch your legs, although I don't recommend hanging around there at night. You just never know.

    AC makes car sputter

My first thought would be that the idle is set too low. Take it to a mechanic and have him adjust the idle. How long has it been since the spark plugs were replaced?

    Fuel additives

Guys, this just isn't true. The only time you need to use a higher octane gas is when the car manufacturer requires it. It doesn't have more "additives," just more octane. All grades of gas contain the same amount of detergents to keep your fuel system clean. You're ripping yourself off and...

    Cleaning the Engine

About once per month, I'll take my car to the self-service car wash and spray clean the engine. Of course I cover the distributor and the coil, but everything else is degreased, scrubbed and rinsed. I firmly believe this helps your engine run better and cooler. I've been doing it for years...

    Scents

I still like using the tree, because I love the scent of orange and coconut mixed, but I've been using FaBreeze to freshen up the upholstery and the carpets. Makes my seats smell so nice!

    Natural gas powered car

I'm not so sure about electric cars either. But natural gas powered cars could really take off. The only problem is the lack of availability of natural gas. But it could happen, and I think overall operation of the vehicle would be cheaper than an all-electric one.

    Races

Do you enjoy going to the car races? There's a little drag strip not far from me, and every now and then, my nephew and I will go. I'm not big on drag races, as I like stock car racing better, but it beats doing nothing on a Saturday night.

    CDs in the car

I don't drive just to listen to cd's. With the price of gas these days, that just seems kind of wasteful to me. Now, if I have somewhere to go, I listen to my cd's, but I don't make a special trip for it.

    Can-Am Spyder

I've seen the commercial and the website as well. The Can-Am is like an old three-wheeler, but instead of the single wheel on front, it has two wheels in the front and one in the back. I would love to have one of those! I bet they're pretty expensive.

    Gps

Do you have a GPS in your car? I bought one a few month ago because I was going to Florida, but I haven't used it since I got back. Most of the places I go, I already know how to get there. I think they'd be good for people who travel for a living, or travel for pleasure, but for me, it's not...

    Repairing a scratch

Have you tried to wax the spot? I would try that first. If that doesn't work, try a high quality liquid polish (wax and polish aren't the same thing), that should bring out the shine. Good luck.

    Crack in the windshield?

If you have a $100 or lower deductable on your comprehensive insurance, you can have this professionally repaired and it should cost you nothing. Check your insurance policy and then call your insurance agent. It probably would be a more permanant repair than something you do yourself.

    2012 Volkswagen Beetle

That's sweet! I've always been a huge van of Volkswagen (new and old), especially the Beetle. I just love that new body style. I wonder if it's any higher priced that the old one? I'll have to do some research on this, that might just be my next new car.

    Loaning Your Vehicle

Would you loan your vehicle to a friend or family member? Do you? As for me, no sir! I've seen how my friends and family treat their stuff, and I'm not letting them treat my car that way. Yeah, some may consider it rude, but I consider it taking care of my own.

    Do You Know Your Mechanic?

Do you? You should? If you're going to keep your car running right and keep it for a long time, you should know your mechanic. My mechanic owns a small garage and does everything that needs done to my car. He keeps all the old parts for me to examine and keeps a log of everything he's done...
