I thought it was at least 100 feet before turning in residential and 200 feet elsewhere. But it will vary from state to state. For example Florida you may see the blinker on 5 miles before the turn.
The last time I helped someone I had to make a u turn. It was a simple jump though. That is what it usually is. Oh, I take that back. I had someone who needed gas at my house the about two weeks ago, so I used what was left of the can for the mower.
Texas has talked about it since 1995. Well, there was a movement for it the 1860's but that was resolved. In 2009 the movement started picking up steam though.
I remember when I first started driving. I went through a neighborhood and one of the streets had a small patch of ice no more then 2'x3' or so. They had cones out around it and were warning people by standing on the sidewalk and yelling at them about the ice.
We get snow birds from everywhere too, and each state has their own laws and driving style. So it makes for interesting driving.
They start driving at 15 for a learners permit here and 16 for your normal license.
I have learned to sit back and laugh at it. Almost like watching a movie anymore. More then likely that is the wrong attitude, and does not help, but it is less stressful for me.
My pickup is also my daily driver. It averages 18mpg with a v8, which is the same as my mustang got with a v6. It is all about how you drive, but I know I will not see higher then prius, but I can haul a prius.
Looks like they have come down in price. I haven't looked in a long time, not sure how well this kit is made, but it is under $50. http://www.amazon.com/Fuloon-Underbody-System-Lights-Controller/dp/B006GIG74S/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1343240368&sr=8-1&keywords=under+car+neon+lights
